In May of 2008, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America assigned Father John Vlahos to the Church of the Holy Resurrection, where he now serves as the second proistamenos in the history of our parish.

Father John was born on April 8, 1975 in Merriville, Indiana. He is the son of Stella and the late Anastasios Vlahos. Both his parents immigrated to the United States in the 1960’s from villages just outside of Corinth. He has one sister, Faye and two brothers, Steve and Nicholas. Upon graduation from Merrilville High School in 1993, he enrolled at Indiana University and in 1997 he graduated with a degree in Public Finance.

Upon graduation from Indiana University in 1997 he enrolled at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. In May 2001, he graduated with a Masters of Divinity Degree.

On June 10, 2001, in their home parish of Saints Constantine and Helen, in Merrilville, Indiana he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Tina Manolopoulos.

From July 2001 through July 2002, Father John served as Assistant Director of the St. Photios National Shrine in St. Augustine, Florida. He was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on January, 27, 2002 in Merrillville, Indiana by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago.

In July 2002 he was appointed Archdeacon to His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of America in which capacity he served until January 2006. In his capacity as Archdeacon, Fr. John participated in both the ground breaking ceremony and the Thyranixia at our parish.

He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by Archbishop Demetrios at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Hempstead, New York in 2006 and served as a priest of that community from that time until he joined the Church of the Holy Resurrection.

On April 11th, 2010, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios bestowed the offikion of Economos upon Fr. John.
