Welcome to our Community Greek School
We offer a comprehensive program of Greek education for children of all ages, beginner through the Regents level. Students are placed in levels and sub-groups in accordance with their knowledge of the Greek language rather than grades according to their age. Therefore, children have an opportunity to learn at their individual level, in small classes, with experienced teachers.
The Greek
School meets for three hours each week (with the exception of beginners
and Regents) on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30-7:30pm from mid
September until early June. The beginner level meets on Fridays from
4:30-6:30pm and the B, C, D levels from 4:30-7:30pm. Our A level meets
on Wednesdays from 4:30-7pm. Our Regents level classes meet from
4:30-6:30pm on Thursdays. The program consists of instruction in all of
the following curriculum areas:
Reading, Writing, and Conversation
Culture
Computer Technology
Dance and Performing Arts
During the academic year, special holidays and events are included where students perform plays, recite poems, sing songs, and dance. They include Christmas (December), Greek Independence Day (March), and Graduation (June). In addition, our Greek School participates in the annual Greek Independence parade in NYC and dances at our annual Greek Village Festival.
The Greek School Parent Association is largely responsible for planning and fundraising events and activities. The Parent Association assists the school through donations of supplemental educational materials such as books, CDs, and computers. All parents are encouraged to participate in our Parent Association.
