Junior Orthodox Youth, or JOY, is the ministry for
children of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America from ages 7-12.
Since JOY is a ministry, the orientation and implementation of the
program should
reflect the Orthodox Christian Faith, Tradition and Life. JOY
meets once a month either with a Faith Focus meeting, an arts and
crafts,and/or social outing and sports which include
soccer, basketball, and the Olympics which take place Memorial Day
weekend.
Please contact the JOY advisors by email with any questions or concerns; Kelly Gatanas kgatanas@aol.com, and/or Patti Andreolas pahristo1@verizon.net. Download the JOY registration form here.
The
mission and goal of GOYA ministry is to lead our young people into
experiencing the Orthodox faith, tradition and life. Teenagers should
be in seventh through twelfth grades to participate. Fellowship
opportunities are provided by many social, community service, and
athletic events. In addition, we actively participate in the Long
Island INTERGOYA. Our meetings are held twice a month, typically on a Monday or Tuesday from 7-8:30.

Children ages 4, 5, and 6 are invited to join our church's HOPE (Holy Orthodox Primary Education) ministry. The mission of HOPE is to strengthen the relationship of young Orthodox Christians with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The four elements of worship, fellowship, service, and witness will be integrated into the program. The meetings will involve prayer, mini-lessons with movement and discussion, lots of arts and crafts, yummy snacks, and play time with friends. We meet once a month, from October to May. Our meetings are usually the first Saturday of the month, from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. New dates to be announced. In the past, we have read parts of the Bible and reenacted those parts with puppet shows, painted ceramic crosses, wrote poetry, learned about the lives of several Saints, made icons, planted flowers and decorated our own flower pots, made keychains, and we even made our own chocolate lollipops. Also, we have taken fun trips like mini-golfing at Harbor Links in Port Washington, and going to see the Gazillion Bubble show in Manhattan. If you have any questions, or need more information, please contact advisor Millie Gianoukakis at hawaiianhoneymoon2000@yahoo.com.
The Little Angels
is for children from the ages of newborn to three years old. It meets
every second Monday of the month at 10:30 am in the Church nursery. The children play,
make crafts and even go on field trips throughout the year.

Scouting:
Our parish is proud to sponsor Boy Scout Troop #72 and Cub Scout Pack
#72, community based units that do all the usual Scout things. In
addition, they include activities special to an Orthodox sponsored unit
– such as the annual Eastern Orthodox Scout Retreat, trips to Holy
Cross Seminary in Massachusetts, preparation for the Orthodox awards,
etc. Though we do not sponsor directly Girl Scouts, we do have our
affiliated Girl Scout Troop in which our parishioners serve and
participate.
